Notes on the performance
The ballet season opens with some classic choreography to the immortal notes of Prokofiev conducted by Patrick Fournillier: Romeo and Juliet by Kenneth MacMillan, in La Scala’s repertoire for many years now, has seen some unforgettable and passionate performers alternating the roles. MacMillan deals with the matter paying great attention to human relations, lyricism and psychological tension, without neglecting moments of humour, through the dynamics and the emotions of ballet d’action. The stars of the first performances are Roberto Bolle and Misty Copeland, together for the first time in this ballet, in the set designed especially for La Scala in 2010 by Mauro Carosi and Odette Nicoletti, and recently brought on tour in Japan.
The 31st December performance will be a Gala evening which will mark the long awaited return of Alessandra Ferri at La Scala, starring alongside Heman Cornejo, Principal of the American Ballet Theatre at his debut at La Scala.
